Welcome to the Ultimate Meme Database! We at the Ultimate Meme Database are committed to bringing you the latest internet memes and fads. But we go further than that. We provide you with information such as the origin of the meme, the actual meme itself and relating content, and any inside information needed to better understand the joke. For a meme to be added to the Ultimate Meme Database, two things must be present: the meme must be well known, and must be funny. Each and every meme is screened by our staff; one person on a computer, to ensure the utmost in quality is presented to you on the Ultimate Meme Database. We hope you enjoy your visit to the Ultimate Meme Database! Please remember, this website is owned by a high school student and not a massive company! Support us! Know about a meme not listed here? All Your Base Are Belong To Us The most well known of all the internet memes is All Your Base Are Belong To Us. The meme originates from the game Zero Wing by Toaplan. Zero Wing was released in Japan and subsequently in Europe, both for the Sega Megadrive (Genesis) home video game system. The translation of the game from english to Japanese is one of the most horrendous things ever created. In 1999, a video was released making fun of Zero Wing's translation complete with photoshopped pictures featuring the phrase all your base are belong to us and a catchy sound track dedicated to the game. The following is the original video.
Dragostea Din Tei Dragonstea Din Tei is a song by the Molovian / Romanian Euro-pop group O-zone. First, I will show you the original music video. Remember, the following is not my fault.
Now, that was strange. Anyways, the next chain link in the process is "Koi No Maiyahi", a Japanese flash video which interprets the original song by translating the lyrics into the closest sounding Japanese phrase. As you can expect, this leads to some awfully comical situations. Infact, the chorus numa numa iei is changed into a phrase which translates back into english as "Drinking Drinking Yay!". Awfully strange indeed.
The next and final video for this meme is Gary Brolsma's famous interpretation.
Shoyu Senshi Kikkoman There exists in this world a messageboard so powerfull that it is the largest messageboard in the world. I of course speak of the Japanese language messageboard, 2-channel. Many people on 2-chan, as it's called for short, like to draw funny pictures with keyboards, such as us Americans do. This is how the Soy Sauce Warrior Kikkoman came to be. After he appeared as a drawing, this famous flash video, including lines such as "What a suckers!" was created.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise Picard is popular among the realm of internet meme fanatics because of his large amount of quotes from Star Trek: The Next Generation. In this series, there are many phrases which have become widely used, such as "Engage" or "Make it so!". The Picard Song is a song playing on these phrases to make a rap like form of music, almost as if it is being sung by Captain Picard himself. The following is a music video of The Picard Song
Nigga Stole My Bike No, I'm not trying to be racist. However, this is one of the greatest ytmnd fads of all time. It all started with the game punch-out, featuring the trainer Doc. It depicts him riding a bike and the player chasing after him. After a remix and a nice screencapture of the game itself, the following was born. Yes, I know, its a youtube video of the ytmnd clip. Embedding FTW!
Sony (Condensed into one video!) Ah Sony's E3 press conference. That was a major event in the realm of internet memes. Well, it's best you just watch the video for yourself and see how Sony totally screwed it up. Thanks youtube!
Gundam 3D This is a much lesser known meme but I feel it deserves special recognition for its sheer awesomeness. Gundam fans in the late 70's decided to try their hands at making a live action gundam short. For those who don't know, Gundam is a Japanese animation about giant robots. The following video features awesome film editing techniques such as scratching the film to produce special effects such as weapons firing.
Over 9000! Over 9000 is a Dragon Ball Z meme, and one of the most widely used memes ever. It stems from an episode of Dragonball Z in which Vegeta is asked "Vegeta, what does the scouter say about his power level?" and Vegeta responds "It's over 9000!". And the rest is history.
The Balls Are Inert Another fan favorite from Dragonball Z. The reason this is funny is obvious. It comes from the english dub of Dragonball Z. Here is the original video.
ORLY? The ORLY owl fad is best explained by Wikipedia, so I feel it's okay to use their definition, which is as follows. The phrase "o rly?" was used on the Something Awful Forums at least as early as August 2003. The original "O RLY?" Snowy Owl image macro is based on a photo taken by nature photographer John White, which he posted to the newsgroup alt.binaries.pictures.animals in 2001.The snowy owl image was photoshopped on 4chan after the word filtering of the word "repost" to "owl". The owl image macro was posted or linked to on other websites, spawning many more image macros involving owls. Here is the original image. While ORLY in itself is not a video, there are many fan created memes which use the ORLY owl. One such fan created meme is this. (Please lower speaker volume before viewing, it is a little bit loud)
Yatta! Yatta means "Yay" or "I did it" in Japanese, and this music video is one of the strangest things you will ever see. Though, for some reason or another it is quite popular.
Segata Sanshiro Segata Sanshiro is a parody of the main character in the Akira Kurosawa movie Sugata Sanshiro. Sega needed a good advertising campaign for their Sega Saturn console in the mid 90's and Segata Sanshiro filled that void. Segata Sanshiro, the name of the tv commercial character, sounds almost exactaly the same as the phrase "Sega Saturn Shiro" which means "You must play sega saturn". Segata sanshiro was in about 20 commercials and continues to this day to be a recognizible character of Japanese commercials. Here is a short video about him, and at the end is the music video of Segata Sanshiro with English subtitles for your viewing pleasure.
This Is Sparta In the movie 300, the main character has one line worth of the best line in a movie of the past year or so. The line "This is Sparta" would normally not be funny except for the overly dramatic way in which it is said. Here is a video making fun of this.
Series Of Tubes Theodore Fulton "Ted" Stevens is the senior United States senator from Alaska. When interviewed about his Net Neutrality bill, this is what he had to say.
Now, while this is itself is slightly amusing, considering his major stuttering problem and famous line "The internet is not something that you just dump something on. It's not a big truck. It's a series of tubes!", it gets much better with this music video.
The Bus Uncle The Bus Uncle is an arguement between an older and a younger man aboard a bus in Hong Kong on April 27th 2006. The younger man tapped the shoulder of the older man and asked him to lower his voice while on the phone. The older man became furious and this strange video with very offensive profanity (at least in Chinese culture) was created by a bystander sitting on the bus using a cellphone.
Goemon Impact I've asked people many times to guess what the longest running Konami series is (ie: the one with the most games, not including ports). Most answer Castlevania, but they're wrong. Ganbare Goemon is the longest running Konami series (again, not including ports). Ganbare Goemon is based on the real life person Ishikawa Goemon who was a robin hood like character in feudal Japan. Goemon was caught by the Emperor and boiled alive, which is why a large cauldron is called a Goemon-buro in Japanese. Goemon's games are wacky and uniquely Japanese. Sadly, only 3 have been released in the United States. Anyway, Goemon is assisted in the games by his giant robot friend Impact, who was invented by Monoshiri Jiji (The old wiseman). Impact has an awesome intro sequence in the n64 game Ganbare Goemon: Neo Momoyama Bakufu no Odori (best translated as: Go for it Goemon! The dance of the peach mountain shogunate). Here's the intro video. By the way, please play the Goemon games, I would love more people to know about this awesome series. They are common on eBay.
Star Wars Kid According to Wikipedia: "On November 4, 2002 the boy made a video of himself swinging a golf ball retriever around as a weapon, imitating the Darth Maul character from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace wielding a double-bladed lightsaber. The video was filmed at the studio of his high school, and the tape was left forgotten in a basement, the original owner of the videotape discovered his recorded acts and immediately shared it with some friends. Thinking that it would be a funny prank, they encoded it to a WMV file and shared it using the Kazaa peer-to-peer file sharing network under the filename Jackass_starwars_funny.wmv. Within two weeks, the file was downloaded several million times. An adapted version of the video was created, adding Star Wars music, texts, and lightsaber lights and sounds to his golf ball retriever. According to Waxy.org, this was done by Bryan Dube, an employee from Raven Software.Several gaming, technology and Star Wars-related sites began to host the video, further increasing downloads. Days later a second "Matrix Reloaded" version hit the internet. Soon, people all over the world picked up the original and began making conversions of it, adding music, visual effects, and sounds, combining it with other well-known videos or scenes from films. As of 27th November 2006 it has been estimated by The Viral Factory that the videos had been viewed over 900 million times, making it the most popular "viral video" on the Internet. Thanks to the creation of YouTube it may have been seen almost a Billion times." While I admit I blantantly stole that from wikipedia, I don't think I could have explained it better. Here is the original video which I found highly amusing.
The Ultimate Showdown Of Ultimate Destiny Only one will survive, I wonder who it will be? The Ultimate Showdown Of Ultimate Destiny is a song by Lemon Demon (AKA: Neil Stephen Cicierega). The song is accompanied by a comical flash animation and is popular because of its many references to 80's pop culture. You'll just have to watch it for yourself!
The Ebay Song Wierd Al Yankovich made a song parody of "I want it that way" by the crap- erm I meant Backstreet Boys. Instead of being crappy hyperpop from the '90s, it's a song about everyones favorite website, eBay. Some people from Canada decided to make a lipsync video and put it on youtube, and now it is over 1 million views.
Canon Rock Taiwanese pro-guitarist Jerry Chang's cover of Pachelbel's Canon in D. Worth watching, and he became fairly well known because of this.
I Hope My Body Can Take It Dragonball Z has some of the most retarded lines of dialogue known to man. Made by the same person as over 9000, this video features alot of references to the line "I hope my body can take it" and is very amusing.
Gundam has been mentioned on this website before. Gundam is the best of the '80s robot anime, and deserves mention, but the theme song for Kidou Senshi ZZ Gundam deserves special recognition. A direct followup to Kidou Senshi Zeta Gundam, ZZ gundam features the most awesome opening for a television show in the '80s. It's not an anime, it's true! (Japanese with english and Japanese karaoke subtitles)
Pocket Monsters (Pokemon) Opening 1 As you can tell I like anime, but there is definately a connection between certain anime and memes. The first pokemon opening is hillarious in both english and Japanese, so here it is in both. Japanese first. Ironically, I took this english subbed version from the "seizure" episode. Yes, I watched it. No, I didn't get a freaking seizure. I was so dissapointed at how lame the flashing effects were, I don't see how anyone could get a seizure from it. I will also admit I know all the words to both the Japanese and English versions. Sue me.
Now for English
The Real Saddam I'm not quite sure how well known this one is. I remember it came out right around when the Iraq war started. It was first available at flash.com when flash was still owned by macromedia. (Now it's owned by Adobe). It is a parody of The Real Slim Shady, a song by eminem. Instead of that, it's about Saddam himself and it is supposed to be sung by Saddam himself. Honestly, I know this might be in poor taste now that Saddam isn't here anymore, but it is a great video and I'm sure many people will find this amusing so please watch it.
Fucking USA I guess this might be NSFW if you have a problem with the aformented word, but other that that its ok. This is an animated video made in Korea which goes along with a song by Yoon Min-suk. Yoon Min-suk is an anti-American activist and I, and many others, find this song quite comical. I'm suprised that this video isnt more popular.
Pokemon Ierukana? I love poking fun at Pokemon on this site. Many of you probably know the American pokerap, this is pretty much the Japanese version of that. Just watch it..
Klaus The Forklift Driver A fake forklift driver training video. It is a short video made by Stefen Prehn and Jorg Wagner. It is a parody of the work safety training vids in the 1980's. Please watch it and prepare to laugh your ass off.
Leeroy Jenkins Blatantly stolen from wikipedia: "The video takes place in the Upper Blackrock Spire dungeon in World of Warcraft, inside the Rookery room, one of the most notoriously difficult sections for newcomers to the game. It opens with the guild members discussing an impending raid via audio teleconferencing, complete with regimented battle plan and statistical breakdown of their survival. The fastidiousness of their preparations is ruined by the sudden and unexpected actions of Leeroy; who, being AFK(Away From Keyboard) and missing the entire conversation, runs into the area without pause, yelling "all right chums, I'm back, let's do this! LEEEERRROOOOY JEEEEEENKINS!" There is a second or so of stunned silence from his companions, followed by the carnage that ensues when they mount a rescue attempt. The attempted raid (and video) ends disastrously, with all the guild members laying dead on the floor, screaming at Leeroy for his brash decision. Leeroy responds to the abuse -and explains what he was doing AFK during the raid preparations - with the retort "At least I have chicken.""
Super Kim Courtesy of German TV, it's Super Kim! A parody of Super Mario Brothers with English subs and German audio. Absolutely hillarious.
Crazy German Kid This video is supposedly of a "Crazy German Kid" getting extremely angry at a computer because it wont load his Unreal Tournament game. It could be argued that he is doing this on purpose because of the convienently placed camera, but who knows. This video has over 1 million views on youtube so obviously it is quite popular..
Mario Hell This is the most evil Super Mario Brothers mod ever created. This is becoming very popular on the internet right now.
The Legend Of Zelda A Link To The Past Commercial Commercial released in 1991 to promote the aforemented game. Thank Japan for this. By the way, Link is played by a girl. Read the subtitles.
Mario 2 And Zelda Commercial Look guys it's the 80's! Hillarious.
Zelda II Commercial Just note that the kid calls the dude Grandma in the beginning. Yeah....
Metroid Commercial I'm adding a few of the really popular commercials. Here's metroid for your viewing pleasure
Zelda Commercial (US) This is just funny. Watch it.
Virtual Boy Commerial It needs your eyes!
Canceling AOL This video shows just how hard it is to cancel AOL. Hillarious video of a guy arguing with a customer service rep. Amazingly, he keeps his cool throughout the conversation.
Comcast Technician Falling Asleep On Couch Nearly 1 million views on youtube, a comcast technician fell asleep on someones couch during a service call. For those of you who don't know, comcast is a cable television and internet company.
Safety Not Guaranteed I'm not quite sure of the origin of this one, so please email me if you know. This is a very popular ytmnd.
Lindsay Lohan Doesn't Change Facial Expressions It's true! Though, judging by the following video, she changes hair color, eye color, skin color, size of nose, and the size of her lips quite often.
